Lord of Flies - Character Overview

Ralph - Ralph is the protagonist of the novel and is voted to be the leader of the group on the island. He is 12 years old and english. Ralph attempts to build a sort of civilization made up of the boys on the island, but faces resistance in doing so.

Jack - Jack is the antagonist in the novel and wishes to have totalalitarian like power over how the group progresses. He is the leader of the hunters and he is constantly manipulating the other boys.Jack is described as "tall, thin and bony".

Piggy - Piggy is one of the first characters we meet in the novel and is Ralph's "lieutenant". Piggy is quite inovative and is very scientific and rational in his though process. Jokes are often made at his expense about his appearance.

Simon - Simon is the character that is basically most innocent and good out of the whole lot of characters. He is always looking out for the good of the community as a whole and does not take advantage of the younger members of their make-do society. Simon has a strong connection to nature.

Sam and Eric - Sam and Eric are twins and are almost always together. They are sometimes naive but they are loyal towards Ralph. A lot of the time they are refered to as "samneric" due to them basically being seen as one person by the other boys.

Roger - Roger is Jack's lieutenant and is one of the older boys of the islanders. He is very sadistic and is the perfect character to team up with Jack due to them both being sadistic and inherently mean.
